What are lab-grown diamonds?

Lab-grown or man-made diamonds are a sustainable and ethical alternative to natural diamonds that are created in a laboratory by mimicking the natural conditions that occur within the earth’s core to form natural diamonds. Lab grown diamond engagement rings share the exact chemical and aesthetic properties as their natural diamond counterparts at a far cheaper price point than a natural diamond.

Are lab diamonds still “real” diamonds?

Yes, lab grown diamonds are still “real” diamonds and are not the same thing as moissanite or other diamond simulants. Man-made diamonds have the exact same chemical, physical, and optical properties as natural diamonds. Still, instead of being “naturally occurring”, they are created in a lab that mimics the same conditions that produce natural diamonds.

How much cheaper is a lab grown engagement ring?

Lab grown diamond engagement rings are about 60-70% cheaper than their equivalent natural diamond option. That means that if you are comparing two engagement rings with the same setting, diamond quality, and appearance you can expect to pay about 60-70% less for the lab grown diamond than man made alternative

Are lab-grown diamond rings a new thing?

No, lab-grown diamond engagement rings are not a new thing. Lab-grown diamond technology dates back to the 1950s; however, it is fair to say that the popularity of lab-made diamonds has grown dramatically over the last few years. As man-made diamond manufacturing processes continue to improve and buyers seek more ethical alternatives to natural diamonds, lab-made diamond rings are becoming an increasingly popular option for buyers.

How are lab-grown diamonds certified?

Our lab-grown diamonds are designed and engineered to the highest industry standards set by the International Gemological Institute (IGI). Our lab-grown diamonds are also certified by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). It’s important to remember that lab grown diamonds are graded differently to mined diamonds as there are subtle differences and variations between colour and clarity.
