Customisation is the name of the game when it comes to fancy colour lab grown diamonds. Lab grown fancy diamonds are available in every shade imaginable, from common tints of yellow, pink, and brown, to rarer hues of red, blue, and green.

When it comes to choosing a coloured diamond, the primary concern that most buyers have is about how the quality of lab-grown alternatives compares to the naturally formed stones. At GS Diamonds, our lab-grown coloured diamonds are cut with the same precision and expertise as naturally created fancy diamonds, ensuring that they are equivalent in terms of quality for material and make.
In the last 10 years, we have been leading the industry in lab grown diamond technology, producing coloured diamonds that are indistinguishable in the brilliance that they display.
Our lab-created fancy diamonds are measured on the same clarity and colour scales as regular diamonds, with clarity grades starting at SI2, and colour grades ranging from Light to Fancy Vivid.
Lab-grown coloured diamonds are the ideal choice of stone for creating a custom ring or piece of jewellery that is truly unique.
Fancy lab grown diamonds are made under carefully monitored environments in a laboratory. Diamond scientists will place a fragment of a natural diamond within a special chamber that replicates the intense heat and pressure that create diamonds deep below the earth’s crust.
To achieve the effect of certain hues and colours in the diamond, scientists will also introduce trace elements that are required for the formation of a specific colour. For example, blue diamonds occur naturally when boron is present during the formation process. To produce a blue diamond in the lab, boron is also introduced into the creation chamber.
This formation process for coloured lab grown diamonds can take up to a few weeks to complete. Once the diamond structure is fully developed, it is then retrieved from the chamber and undergoes the same cutting, polishing, and preparation to become the beautiful stones you see in our store.
Lab grown coloured diamonds are graded by the same 4Cs as regular diamonds: Carat, Cut, Clarity, and Colour. The only difference is that the colour grading for fancy diamonds is not the same as colourless or white diamonds — they are measured on a scale ranging from Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light and Fancy to Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Dark and Fancy Deep. Lab grown coloured diamonds with colour gradings of Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid have the most colour and are highly valued.
Unlike traditional clear diamonds, coloured diamonds are formed with distinctive pigments, resulting in captivating, vibrant tones of pink, yellow, green, blue and red. Whether it be within an engagement ring, diamond pendant, or droplet earrings, a coloured diamond as the centrepiece of jewellery makes for a unique piece with a touch of your personality.
With GS Diamonds, we offer bespoke diamond jewellery services for you to create customised coloured diamond jewellery. You can browse the options online and in-store to create the perfect piece for yourself or your loved one.
Though they may look similar to their gem counterparts, naturally coloured diamonds are much rarer due to the number of elements that need to be present for their creation deep in the earth. Each coloured diamond is placed in a certain range of colours that determines its value.
Yellow-coloured diamonds are one of the most popular variants, forming in the presence of nitrogen. Because of their bright lustre, they are best used as centrepieces in jewellery, such as the main gem of a necklace. Yellow diamonds are often a symbol of happiness, friendship, and hope.
Blue diamonds are highly prized for their exceptional rarity and brilliant appearance. Formed in the presence of boron, diamonds with a blue hue make for an ideal choice in engagement rings or wedding rings due to their symbolic relationship with eternity, devotion, and truth.
Orange diamonds are sometimes referred to as “pumpkin diamonds” due to their rich and bright shine. They are generally considered one of the rarer types of coloured diamonds. Orange diamonds typically represent energy and zest.
Brown diamonds are among the more common types of colour diamonds, accounting for almost 15% of naturally mined diamonds. Despite their common nature, this more mellow shade of diamond has become increasingly popular in Australia becasue of its versatility in matching almost any type of skin tone, earning it the moniker of “chocolate diamond”.
Red and pink are the rarest shades of coloured diamonds available and are highly valued, especially for engagement rings. Symbolic of love and passion, naturally occuring red or pink coloured diamonds are very difficult to find and can cost up to several thousand.
Black diamonds, also known as carbonados, are naturally occurring diamonds that are prized for their otherworldly appearance. In fact, diamond research is currently undecided on how these black diamonds are formed, with some proposing that part of the material comes from outer space, giving these diamonds a mysterious and glamorous reputation.
